Review and Giveway: Cassidy Lane by Maria Murnane

From the author who brought us the unforgettable Waverly Bryson and the bestselling Perfect on Paper series. Bestselling author Cassidy Lane walks into her twentieth high school reunion with several novels under her belt, but no date on her arm, and deep down she still feels like the smart girl no one asked to the prom. Then handsome Brandon Forrester confesses his teenage crush, and soon Cassidy finds herself swept up in a modern-day fairytale romance not unlike the tales she spins for a living. While their relationship blossoms, however, the new book she's writing isn't going as well, and for the first time in her career she considers crafting an ending that doesn't end with a proverbial walk into the sunset. Contemplating the simultaneous reversal of her own romantic fortune and that of her protagonist's is daunting, but maybe it's time for both her writing and her personal life to take a new path. Or is it? Filled with Murnane's trademark wit and optimism, a charming cast of secondary characters, and loads of heart, Cassidy Lane will have you cheering for its heroine down to the very last delightful word.

Maria has an uncanny ability to create such realistic and relatable characters that speak to the reader on a personal level.  Her characters never seem to be far-fetched and more every-day people.

Cassidy Lane is more about a woman wanting to find love.  Her life is thriving, being an accomplished author.  But she realizes she is lacking in the love department and a little lonely after going to her high school reunion.

Cassidy Lane is somewhat inexperienced in the dating scene and the flirting scene.  Things take a complicated turn when she and Brandon start connecting on levels she has never reached.  Between their texts, phone calls, distance, and a date or not a date, she seems to be finding herself feeling like her life just may be lacking in areas that she never noticed before.

Between trying to finish her current book and connecting with Brandon, life seems to be a bit distracting for her.  She isn't sure if her book will get done.  She doesn't know if she has a relationship status with Brandon.

The dialogue that Cassidy and Brandon share is a little juvenile at times, but it cute nonetheless.  It is almost like they want to keep talking, but don't know what to say at times, so they just say whatever pops in their head.  We have all been there.  The desire to keep connecting and not wanting a conversation to stop or wanting to engage in a conversation, but need a way to spark it.

Life takes an unexpected turn between Cassidy and Brandon.  They are faced with real life issues outside of the technology bubble.  Hearts are breaking.  Cassidy doesn't handle hard situations well.  She almost seems immature when it comes to facing things that are unpleasant for her.  I guess that is what makes the story more interesting.  Her somewhat immaturity and self-centeredness mixed with her inexperience make for quite the diatribe!

This story is very well written.  I read it in almost one night because I simply did not want to put it down!!!  The story-line is not only relatable but mostly realistic from the characters' standpoints.  Now the ending... I am not sure if I liked it or not.  I am not sure what it exactly means.  Will this be a series or a two parter?  Are we supposed to make up our own ending based on what we would have liked to happen?  What would I like to happen?  I would have liked that phone call to not have happened, if I am being honest!  To find out what I am talking about, you will just HAVE to read this book!
