My Review ... 5-Stars
This book is the perfect combination of humor, drama, and "romance" one could experience! It is thoroughly enjoyable. It is full of light-humor, sarcastic characters, and an explosive romance. There are many twists and turns, the book is a page turner from beginning to end! And the cliffhanger at the end..... well I cannot wait to read the follow-up!
My Amazon Review....
“You can never tell what life may bring. Anticipation of the unknown is half the fun of living. The other half is doing it.”
Enter Miss Anabel Axelrod! Wow what a character! Sassy, confident, smart, sarcastic, successful….. And she is falling hard for on Luke Drake! And she refuses to allow herself to succumb to that realization.
Following her in the long list of characters, besides her and Luke, include (but not limited to) her sisters, her cousin, her old best friend from high school, her current co-workers and best friend…. So many characters one cannot name ALL of them. What fun would that be? And man this book is fun! The majority of the characters share a big spotlight with Anabel, and as they should!
This book is full of twists, turns, surprises, love, sarcasm, mayhem…. There is so much going on; one cannot wait to see how the story plays out. And believe me, it all ties together. At some points, you will question the relevance of some parts, trust me, the entire book is relevant!
I refuse to give away too much of the mini-plots that lead to the main plot that break off to more mini plots because I am afraid of being a spoiler!
Trust me when I say, you would be a fool to not read this entire book from start to finish…. There is action, love, seduction, a little violence here and there; did I mention sarcasm? I know that is my favorite component. Nothing like a chuckle here, a gasp there, a laugh here….What I am trying to say is, READ THE DARN BOOK, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
“I wanted to beg him to go steady, or be my valentine, or take me to a homecoming dance somewhere—I was crushing like an innocent schoolgirl that hard, that fast. It was nauseating, confusing, mesmerizing, and not to be tolerated.”
Anabel Axelrod is back…and so is Luke Drake! Courted by Karma picks up right where we left off with the doorbell buzzing on Tuesday at 11:59 PM. First it was Her Turn. Now it is His Turn. Anabel’s life was sizzling before, but now its on fire! Can she handle the heat?
After her last crazy few days, Anabel’s hell bent on having nothing but a good time during the traditional upcoming Axelrod Women Weekend. Cousin Layla and some friends are flying in from Florida for a visit. Despite Chief Jack’s warning not to call him this year if they end up in jail again, the women plan to rock the town! But first our girl has to survive some Russians, some Mexicans, some Parents, Thanksgiving, and Anabel’s hottest challenge ever…Luke Drake. And Mr. Secretive has plans of his own.
Will it ever be Our Turn for Luke and Anabel, or is it her karma to get burned by the smokin’ hot flames?
Author’s note: This story is for mature audiences. This series is sequential. For the optimum reading experience, please read A Date with Fate first and then Courted by Karma.
My Review ... 5-Stars
Were you left with your mind reeling wanting to know just who that was at the end of A Date with Fate and just what exactly was in that black bag that is "his turn"? Well, you will find out.... Man was I elated the way things played out! I stood on the sidelines with my pom-poms cheering for Anabel and Luke. Anabel returns as sassy as ever and full of excitement. Just when you thought she had enough excitement for one weekend, you will get to take another roller coaster of a ride again! Wouldn't we all want to be in Anabel's shoes? And Luke? Whoa! Swoon! Luke is definitely a man we all would want! Tall, dark and secretive he is! Now, I will warn you, Svette is back. Ugh, but the story wouldn't be complete without her whining and pining over Luke, now would it? We get to see a little more of the elusive John. I think I might kind of like him. Not sure... maybe just a little.
You will not be disappointed in this chapter of Anabel and Luke's story. You will laugh. You will get mad, maybe want to slap a bitch or two. Then you may laugh some more. You may even find yourself daydreaming about Bob aka Crookie. I know I did, a little. There is so much good about this book, but I cannot tell you any of it.... I will give too much away. You will have to find out for yourself what is in store for this group of people who have more going on than the Bunny Ranch on a two-for-one special night!
In Love by Design is the third, rollicking volume in the ongoing series of The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod!
Anabel Axelrod returns...but the sexy, blonde bookstore owner with a sassy attitude and a brain that never stops doesn't get to prove what a fabulous girlfriend she'll make for even one day before Luke disappears out of town. Let the troubles begin! Instead of getting to enjoy being a girl passionately in love, Anabel’s shiny new feelings and trust in her boyfriend are immediately put to the test. Who is the powerfully charismatic Luke Drake? What are his dark secrets? Does he really love Anabel, or has he been coldly manipulating her feelings to further an intricate design of diabolical revenge that has been in the making for years?
In Love by Design finds the confident Anabel desperately beginning to wonder if she’s wrong to believe in her incredibly hot, yet very tricky Dark Prince. Or is this one fairy tale where love cannot conquer all?
A note from Tracy Ellen: The books in this series should definitely be read in order for the most pleasurable reading experience. I don't recap much. Thank you.
My Review ... 5-Starss
I am one of the small handful whom have had the pleasure of editing this book and the previous book as they were written. I have seen the book from word one to the last word. I have watched the changes and formation of the final product. So, my opinion may seem a little biased. I think that I should be since I was a part of the sweat and tears of getting this book ready. I may have not written it or Courted by Karma, but I feel like they are a part of me nonetheless. I am straight up honest when I say that I have LOVED all three books! They are all equally entertaining. Which is what they should be. right? I would hope so. So now on with my review…
Anabel and Luke… I always find myself shaking my head at the two of you and your hijinks and secrets. I seem to always want to slap you silly and hug you all at the same time. Now, Luke. I was a little mad at him in the beginning. I really wanted to despise him, and I did. Honest. But, I knew the back-story would come out, and I would find myself loving him as I have in the past. Well, at least I kept that in the back of my mind throughout the book. I am not a spoiler, so I will not tell you what I am talking about nor if I got to go back to loving him. You have to find that out for yourself.
Anabel. What can we say about her that hasn’t been said? She will always be the ass-kicking, sassy, smart-mouth she has always been. She just can’t help herself. Again with her secret desire to be a detective. Won’t she ever learn this is where she lands herself into hot water? Smh. I think she is the adult version of Darcy Walker. (Many of you may not know who she is, but she is a character from another series from a different author whom I really like also.) Someone give her her honorary gold badge, please! Forget bookstore owner. She is a mutha f’in kickass ninja in disguise! I swear it!
One thing that still has my mouth left agape is the usage of the “l” word between Luke and Anabel. Although the two are never mushy… I was pretty giddy of their form and usage of it! I never expected these two characters to show any kind of relationshipism, never! Although their way of telling each other how they feel isn’t traditional, it is traditional and works for them!
In the end, the bad guy may or may have not been caught. Someone else is murdered. Yes, more action for us! Anabel has helped save yet more people in the middle of unconnected chaos! Would you expect anything else? And she and Luke may or may not have broken up… We are left with a couple of mini-cliffhangers… Graciously awaiting the final piece in all of the puzzles that surround Anabel and Luke! Hold on to your britches, because there are more than enough rocky roads in this book to keep your bums nice and bruised during the ride!
For all of my life, I’ve always had a thing for shoes that make me say “Oh, yum!” and for reading romance novels written about hot, dangerously smart men and sassy, intelligent women. It’s not an exaggeration to say I’ve avidly read everything I could get my greedy little hands on to find these jewels.
One day this past year or so, I realized that I spend more money on books now than I do on shoes--and I was stunned. Should I be ashamed of this fact or proud? Then an even stranger thing happened. It was like a switch turned off/on inside me. All of a sudden instead of wanting to read about diabolically sexy men, I wanted to write my own story of the building hot romance between a lippy, confident woman and a gorgeously mysterious man.
So began my budding writing career. Then I made another happy discovery—I absolutely love writing and still have a thing for shoes! Since then, my self-published books include A Date with Fate and Courted by Karma in The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod series. The third book in the series, In Love by Design will be released in September 2013.
For those of you who may want to know some pertinent facts: I was born in Indiana to middle-class parents, the third out of five hellions. My mother wanted to go to work every day. I’ve always lived in the Midwest, except for six steamy months in Florida when I was nineteen. Currently, I reside in the suburbs of St. Paul, Minnesota with my family. The college town of Northfield featured in Anabel’s Adventures is just down the road a jaunt.
I love, love, love connecting with readers. Comments, posts, reviews, and emails are always welcome. Follow my blog or like me on Facebook to be aware of events and giveaways, or new books I’m publishing.
Thanks again for reading my books and supporting this indie author!
Excerpt from A Date with Fate
When agreeing to go on a first date with a man, I always avoid being without a getaway car. I have gratefully escaped early from many brutally boring date nights with this sensible rule. I thought of my day ahead and took a few steps back into the dining room. Luke was at the screen door in the living room, and had it opened.
“Let’s make it eight. Oh, and I prefer to meet you, Luke. I may want to have your children, but I don’t really know you, right? So where shall we meet?”
Luke gave another crack of laughter like I had said something hilarious. “Anabel, I’m picking you up. Eight is fine.” Across the room, he gave me that appraising look again while his fist tapped out a quick, staccato beat on the wooden door frame. Brow creased, he said, “Listen, I’d really like it if you wore a dress tonight.”
Seeing my surprised, wary look at his clothing specifications, a huge grin transformed his harsh face with boyish charm.
He snapped his fingers. “Oh yes, I almost forgot. Tiny, pink panties are optional.”
It was extremely difficult, but except for a small moan of agony and squeezing my eyes so tightly shut I saw stars; I stifled my mortification knowing he had seen my bare ass within five minutes of meeting me. These weren’t just tiny pink panties I was wearing, but a butt-flossing thong.
I opened my eyes to frown very sternly at his smiling face. “Look, Luke, if I break my rule about being picked up can you promise not to dismember me on the first date or worse yet, bore me?”
Pushing the door open, Luke casually shrugged a shoulder. “I never make promises I can’t keep. You may prove irritating.”
I blinked in disbelief. By the time I recovered to retort, I was talking to the screen door. Stunned, I realized Luke really had left. After a moment of taking this in, I started laughing in rare enjoyment. This first date could prove very interesting indeed. I went out on the front porch to the top of the stairs. He was almost at his truck. I called out, “You didn’t even ask me where I live, Mr. Will-of-the-Wisp. You’d better show up!”
He opened the truck door and called back, “Somehow, I don’t think finding you will be difficult.” I could see his confident grin. “You’d better be ready when I get there.”
I have to get in the last word; it’s a failing and a gift. “Let it be on the record; I am very disappointed you have something against tiny, pink panties!”
War-god was laughing behind the light tint of his windshield when, with a final wave; he drove away in my shiny, new truck. I stood on the porch staring unseeingly outside. By my track record, I tend to go out with men who are fun and possess a sense of humor. They generally share the personality trait of being easygoing. Or to rephrase the great Chief Jack Banner, they are pansy-asses that jump through my hoops. They don’t find my rules a problem and they don’t try to control me.
If Luke’s personality matched his persona; this was no docile, nice guy. I didn’t see any voluntary hoop jumping in Luke’s future. Control was his first name and probably his middle name, too.
It was puzzling I felt such an intense attraction to a man I had a sneaking suspicion fit none of my criteria. I snickered to myself; I probably fit none of his, either. I’m most definitely aware that men thrive on the challenge of the hunt. Never before in my dating career have I skipped to the kill and offered myself up on a platter, complete with an apple in my mouth, like I did today.
I laughed out loud recalling the expression on his face. I cheerfully decided it would take more investigation, up close and personal, to unravel this mysterious behavior on my part. I highly doubted I’d prove too easy for war-god Luke, no matter what his thoughts may be right now.
I brightened a little at my next thought. Maybe Luke and I just needed to hit the sheets and I could get it out of my system. Although honestly, I have never before felt such a sexual attraction for a man with no basis on anything but being in his presence for a few minutes. Even after I had a basis of knowing most men, I’ve never felt so…whatever the hell I am feeling. This was off the charts for me, but I wasn’t too concerned.
You can never tell what life may bring. Anticipation of the unknown is half the fun of living. The other half is doing it.
