A taut, philosophical mind-bender from the bestselling author of I’m Thinking of Ending Things.
We don’t get visitors. Not out here. We never have.
In Iain Reid’s second haunting, philosophical puzzle of a novel, set in the near-future, Junior and Henrietta live a comfortable, solitary life on their farm, far from the city lights, but in close quarters with each other. One day, a stranger from the city arrives with alarming news: Junior has been randomly selected to travel far away from the farm...very far away. The most unusual part? Arrangements have already been made so that when he leaves, Henrietta won't have a chance to miss him, because she won't be left alone—not even for a moment. Henrietta will have company. Familiar company.
Told in Reid’s sharp and evocative style, Foe examines the nature of domestic relationships, self-determination, and what it means to be (or not to be) a person. An eerily entrancing page-turner, it churns with unease and suspense from the first words to its shocking finale.
**** 4 Star Review****
Ok...my mind is spinning right now! What did I just read?! My thoughts are a little all over the place because Iain just blew my mind.
My first thought...
Hmmmm....This is different. I’m very intrigued yet confused.
My second thought…
WHAT THE HECK AM I READING?! What is wrong with these people?! No way!!
My third thought…
I do not trust Hen or Terrance. Nope! Something is definitely off with them! Speak up Junior!! Say or do something!!!
They were just a couple of my thoughts while reading most of this book. So many things will go through your mind while trying to figure out what the heck is going on. I had so many theories but not one of them was remotely close. When that twist was revealed, everything made sense!
EVERY. SINGLE. THING!!!
Having read Iain’s first book, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, I knew I was going to be in for a crazy, unique and thrilling ride but this one exceed all of my expectations! I could seriously go on and on about everything in this book but it will spoil everything and I will not do that.
Go in with an open mind and let his words absorb you, frustrated you and blow you away!
I can not wait to see what Iain Reid comes up with next!
