Review: Fault Lines by Rebecca Shea

October 30, 2017

At eleven he was my first crush. At sixteen he became mine. At nineteen he broke my heart and destroyed me. That was ten years ago and the last time I saw Cole Ryan.

They say you never get over your first love...I beg to differ. I left my shattered heart buried in a town I never expected to return to. I erased every thought of him and buried the memories never to be found.

I moved on...now ten years later I have the perfect life, the perfect fiancé, the perfect career. Everything I ever wanted until I'm forced to go back and face my past and the man that destroyed me.

He won't stop until I know the truth no matter how hard I fight it. In the end, lies will be uncovered, hearts will be broken, and my life as I've come to know it destroyed.

Sometimes second chance romance books pull me, sometimes they just don't resonate with me. Unfortunately, this one is the latter. This second chance romance is good, but it just wasn't great.

This is one of those second chance romances where I found myself getting irritated with the characters and their constant pushing. Instead of one chasing after the other, there felt to be more pushing from both ends. They both secretly held onto their past feelings, but at the same time were too stubborn to be the first one to act.

For the most part, I really liked Cole. His character was the one character I felt some empathy for. I just couldn't connect with Frankie. She was too detached and withdrawn for my liking. Her character felt like it was missing something.

The story itself is good. It flows. Although, it is very predictable. And it has a little bit of angst. Now Carter? He is my hero. I LOVED him. His character was the best part of this book.

Overall, if you are looking for a mostly light, quick, HEA, this book is definitely something you should dive into immediately.
